Flood outreach week highlights…

Springtime has brought a host of opportunities to Zoe’s House to serve the foster and adoption community.

Recently, our team participated in The Flood, a citywide week of outreach leading up to The Send stadium gathering here in Kansas City. In addition to caring for teams at local pregnancy resource centers and foster care agencies, Zoe’s House hosted a Family Fun Day at the Foundry Church for foster and adoptive families, complete with a free dinner and gifts for the children and families. We were not fully prepared for how much it would mean to them or to us.

The first foster mom who came through the door admitted, “This is the hardest job I’ve ever had….”, as she brushed tears off her cheeks. “Thank you for doing this!  We are so blessed!”  Her son exploded with excitement as he wandered into the Zoe’s House Free Store setup with generous donations from City Serve. We heard him shout, “Mom! New shoes! And they fit!” I bent down to tie the shoes for him, choking back my own tears of gratefulness, thinking that all this work would have been worth it for just this one family.

Of course, there were more. Over 200 moms, dads, kids and caseworkers walked through the doors that evening as the Zoe’s House team served up Chick-fil-A meals, invited them into the gymnasium to play, and helped them in the Free Store, lending support to all those who have said “yes” to foster care and adoption. What a joy to see their faces, hear their stories, and partner in their journey.

Later, an adoptive mom texted us what her daughter said about the outreach:

“Like, it was the best day of our lives!??! And everything was free!”

The mother told us, “Oh my goodness, I’m in tears – I was not expecting the lavish love you’ve shared with us!”

Notes of gratitude are pouring in from all across the city. We are profoundly grateful for the opportunity to bless and support those who have said “yes” to the spirit of adoption.

Thank you for being a part of the Zoe’s House family.  These stories are your stories.  We deeply appreciate your partnership with the mission to serve expectant mothers and adoptive families with dignity and the love of Christ.
