Fall 2023: A Letter From Kelsey Bohlender

A story worth telling

Dear friends,

History is the narrative of the past. We study it to know where we’ve been and if we’re fortunate enough to unlock it, to have some understanding of where we are going.

Kansas City has a unique history of caring for the vulnerable, especially through adoption. More than a century ago, faithful Kansas Citians, compelled by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, took up the cause of caring for needy women and children. We told their stories in our recent production of The Journey Home (click HERE to watch clips from The Journey Home!).

They say if something needs to be done, ask a woman.

In Kansas City – like everywhere in the world – a woman was a force to be reckoned with. In 1870 when twenty women set their minds to the cause, things started to happen. Children’s homes were founded, maternity homes built – and Kansas City became known as the ‘Adoption Hub of America’.

More than 100 years later, the needs still exist in our city. Unplanned pregnancies. Women wanting choices. Children needing a family. Cheered on by a great cloud of witnesses, Zoe’s House exists today to serve expectant mothers and adoptive families with dignity and the love of Christ. A baton is being passed from the past generation who said “yes” to helping the oppressed and needy. Our desire is to throw off everything that hinders, grasp the baton, and faithfully run the race of life (Hebrews 12:1).

The Zoe’s House mission continues because of the generosity of our partners. This year, we are asking you to help us reach our end of year $375,000 goal, enabling us to run another lap. Thank you for helping us tell their stories!

Today, the pen is in our hand, the baton is within our reach. What will be our response?

For LIFE,

Executive Director
Zoe’s House
